Le Moire - The Fades

Le Moire sono tre sorelle che compaiono nella mitologia greca, figlie di Zeus e di Temi. Vivevano nell'Olimpo e il loro compito era di tessere la vita degli uomini, pratica assimilabile al tenerne il controllo. Delle tre sorelle, Cloto filava lo stame, Lachesi girava il fuso per torcere il filo, cioè determinava cambiamenti buoni o cattivi nella vita delle persone; la sorella più vecchia, Atropo, invece utilizzava delle forbici per tagliare il filo della vita, quindi determinando la fine della vita delle persone. Le forbici rappresentano un perfetto strumento per identificare la netta separazione che si ha tra la vita e la morte, un taglio irreversibile.

The Fades are three sisters, who appear in the Greek mythology, daughters of Zeus and Temi. They lived in the Olympus and their work was to weave the people's lives, pratice linked to the mantain of the control of it. Of the three sisters, Cloto spun the thread, Lachesis turned the spindle to twist the wire, namely she determined good or bad changes in the people's lives; the older sister, Atropo, instead used the scissors to cut the life's wire, thus causing the end of life of people. The scissors represent a perfect instrument to identify the clear separation between life and death, an irreversible cut.

Nella mitologia greca, anche Afrodite, la dea della bellezza, è collegata alle barbabietole. Il suo segreto di bellezza, si dice, fosse la barbabietola, che manteneva viva la sua bellezza e le concedeva i suoi poteri di seduzione, grazie alle capacità afrodisiache.
Anche nelle culture celtiche si attribuivano capacità straordinarie all'ortaggio, la leggenda voleva che quando un uomo e una donna mangiano la stessa barbabietola, si innamorino l'un l'altra.

In the greek mythology, even Aphrodite, the godness of beauty, is linked with the beets. They say that she's secret of beauty was the beet, that maintained she's beauty and garanted her she's seduction power, thanks to the aphrodisiac capacities.
Also into the celtic cultures, some extraordinary proprietes were attributed to the vegetable, the legend said that when a man and a women eat to the same beet, they fall in love to each other.
